After seeing a mention of this book last year at Marginal Revolution, I knew I had to get my hands on it. It's available at Amazon.com.
A wonderful book for young kids, and a powerful reminder for adults. Maybe Dr. Seuss meets Ayn Rand? ;-)
An Island Called Liberty a kids book by Joseph Specht, a poem of sorts written about an island of people that is doing quite well with progress, production of goods, and leisure time. In short, a great life. Then some busybodies get the idea of collectivism, regulations, "free" healthcare, and increased taxes. It ultimately falls apart and people wise up. But in the end the next generation falls into the same traps as they ignore history. Highly recommended, and VERY timely. Also very brief at under 30 pages.
The book is very well written imho and messages are clear. All 3 of my kids read it last night and enjoyed it.
Justbookz.com has this to say about the author in a brief bio:
"Joseph Specht has almost twenty years of experience in banking and business, and knows the impact that excessive regulation and taxation has on the average family and average small business. While he doesn't expect this book to alter the course of human events, he hopes that it will cause readers to think of free markets and government bureaucracy in new ways."Head over to Amazon and pick it up, I doubt you'll be disappointed.
