Dave runs a great Sinn site at http://sinn142.nav.to/.
He has a vintage Seiko chronograph and noticed a pic of NASA astronaut Col. William Pogue wearing one. He was the pilot of the Skylab 4 mission. Dave contacted Col. Pogue and asked him about the watch and if it was indeed a Seiko chrono. Col. Pogue was kind enough to respond with a letter and pics confirming that he was wearing a Seiko automatic chronograph on Skylab.
In addition to being an interesting story for watch/NASA buffs, there's a little more worth noting. I think this event precedes what was previously believed to be the first automatic chronograph worn in space, a Sinn circa 1985. Thanks very much to Dave for all the pics and info (pic above from Nat'l Geographic, 1974)!!!
