Does Obama Want Amtrak on Steroids?

It would appear so. Imagine the disaster that is Amtrak, on a much larger scale.

Obama Wants To Build High-Speed Trains!: "Barack Obama just announced his plan to spend $13 billion to build a vast high speed rail network across the nation. The stimulus will provide $8 billion initially, after that it will require $1 billion each year for the next five years. 'There are those who say high-speed rail is a fantasy -- but its success around the world says otherwise,' Obama said today. 'Building a new system of high-speed rail in America will be faster, cheaper and easier than building more freeways or adding to an already overburdened aviation system, and everybody stands to benefit.'"

LewRockwell.com Blog: Barackonomics 101 - Obamanable to take us for another "ride"...: "Of course, Obamanable doesn't say who exactly will build this high-speed system. Will it be the private sector? If so, how come that sector hasn't already found it profitable to build one? Will it be the gunvernment (Hello, super-Amtrak!!)? Will it be the usual corrupt corporate socialist gunvernment/corporation 'partnership'? Where will the steel and trains come from? If they are cheaper to be imported, will the economically-ignorant in this country (i.e., most Americans) whine that he must 'buy American'? If he decides to pay higher prices in America, does he realize that the extra money he is spending for political expediency might have been spent elsewhere for more of his 'stimulus' agenda?"
